“Shall Not Be Infringed” Rally Set for Sunday at State Capitol in Bismarck

Recent mass shootings in America have once again set news headlines ablaze as the media covers calls from the anti-gun left for stricter gun control measures— at all levels of government. Gun control zealots live by the words of Rahm Emanuel:

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that, it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

Make no mistake about it, gun rights advocates — and the Second Amendment itself — are being attacked. It’s an unfortunate reality and one that requires a response. Which is why activists from North Dakota have planned a “Shall Not Be Infringed” rally for Sunday at the State Capitol in Bismarck.

According to the details listed on their Facebook Event, they’re inviting:

“… a coalition of grassroots North Dakotans to rally in opposition to ‘Red Flag’ gun control laws and to celebrate the Second Amendment.”

They also note:

“… there is a renewed national effort to promote [Red Flag laws]. A federal grant program is being pushed through the Congress to incentivize states to adopt them.”

On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee passed along a Red Flag bill— together with a ban on high capacity magazines. The move caused Rep. Jim Jordan (R – Ohio) to blast the legislation and the efforts of those supporting it. His comments are worth watching. I’ll post video of them below.

You might recall that earlier this year the North Dakota Legislature dealt with its own version of a Red Flag law. In Fact, 8 of its 10 sponsors were Republicans. It was shameful. Thankfully, there was so much pushback in regards to the effort that it was easily defeated on the House floor in a very fitting 17-76 vote.

In the aftermath of its demise, we published an article suggesting we may not have seen the last of Red Flag in North Dakota. Less than a month after that, we published one detailing the efforts of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R – South Carolina) to move forward with hearings about gun control on Capitol Hill— including Red Flag. In short, the present onslaught isn’t a surprise.

May we always keep in mind that liberty is always lost in the absence of vigilance.

T. Arthur Mason is a native North Dakotan who has spent nearly all of his life in the Peace Garden State. As the third of four children in Western North Dakota, Mason grew to appreciate family and the outdoors. Some of his fondest memories are annual deer hunts with family and friends. In his early teenage years, faith became a central part of T. Arthur Mason's life. He and the majority of his family attend church together on a weekly basis and find this a fulfilling aspect of their lives. Through the influence of his father, T. Arthur Mason became intrigued with politics. As a boy, he attended political events with his father and enjoyed the friendships that resulted as a byproduct of those political associations. As Mason grew older, he became convinced that the quote often attributed to Thomas Jefferson was true, "That government is best which governs least." Today, T. Arthur Mason enjoys time with his wife and children, an occasional hunt, and an increasingly active life on the political scene. This blog is the fulfillment of a dream to design a web site in the realm of politics and to advocate for the principles of Liberty and constitutionally limited government. On behalf of all those that contribute to The Minuteman, we hope you enjoy your time on the site and will share the message with others.
