Yes, it’s that time. The deadline for applicants to participate in the 2019 Deer Gun Lottery is today— June 5th. You must have your applications submitted before midnight tonight.

Youth hoping to hunt antlered mule deer in 3B1, 3B2, 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E and 4F must also apply via lottery before midnight. The eligibility for a youth deer license in these units can be found here.

Hunters should also be aware that paper applications are no longer available. All applications for regular deer gun, youth, and muzzleloader licenses must be made online or by calling the North Dakota Game & Fish Department at 800-406-6409.

Landowners who are applying for gratis licenses must also apply online. According to the North Dakota Game & Fish Department:

“Gratis applications received on or before the regular deer gun lottery application deadline will qualify for an any-legal-deer license. As per state law, gratis applications received after the deadline will be processed based on licenses remaining after the lottery – and generally only antlerless licenses remain.”

As a reminder, the State of North Dakota does have a Hunter Education Requirement— which is explained as follows:

“Hunters born after December 31, 1961, must have passed a certified state or provincial hunter education course in order to purchase a North Dakota deer hunting license. Persons who hunt only on land they own or operate are exempt from this requirement. In addition, individuals who are 12 years of age and older who have not taken the hunter education course can receive an apprentice hunter validation that enables them to hunt deer for one license year. Contact the Game and Fish Department for details.” (Emphasis Added)

If you have questions, you may visit the North Dakota Game & Fish website, e-mail ndgf@nd.gov, or call 701-328-6300. Good luck in the lottery and happy hunting to those fortunate enough to possess a license for the 2019 deer gun season!

About T. Arthur Mason 883 Articles
T. Arthur Mason is a native North Dakotan who has spent nearly all of his life in the Peace Garden State. As the third of four children in Western North Dakota, Mason grew to appreciate family and the outdoors. Some of his fondest memories are annual deer hunts with family and friends. In his early teenage years, faith became a central part of T. Arthur Mason's life. He and the majority of his family attend church together on a weekly basis and find this a fulfilling aspect of their lives. Through the influence of his father, T. Arthur Mason became intrigued with politics. As a boy, he attended political events with his father and enjoyed the friendships that resulted as a byproduct of those political associations. As Mason grew older, he became convinced that the quote often attributed to Thomas Jefferson was true, "That government is best which governs least." Today, T. Arthur Mason enjoys time with his wife and children, an occasional hunt, and an increasingly active life on the political scene. This blog is the fulfillment of a dream to design a web site in the realm of politics and to advocate for the principles of Liberty and constitutionally limited government. On behalf of all those that contribute to The Minuteman, we hope you enjoy your time on the site and will share the message with others.
