No More Mr. Nice Guy: Duck Dynasty Star to Air Show Rejecting Political Correctness

For 11 seasons millions of Americans were avid viewers of the most watched nonfiction cable series in television history– Duck Dynasty. To many of these viewers the Robertson family symbolized some of the fundamentals that made America great– faith, family, and a special kind of humor. Then on March 29th of this year it all ended with their final episode– #130.

Over the 11 seasons of Duck Dynasty, one thing was clear– Phil Robertson was the patriarch of this successful, intriguing, and humorous family. With his wit, unusual charm, and extensive life experience; Phil always came across as the glue that held the madness together.

With all that said, it was no surprise in

December of 2013 when A&E – the network that produced, filmed, and broadcast Duck Dynasty – suspended the series star for comments made about homosexuality in a GQ interview . Yet, the suspension was short-lived due to pushback from viewers. And after nine days, it was lifted. A decision that resulted in no missed filming.

Now, just short of seven months after airing the final episode of Duck Dynasty, it was reported today that Phil Robertson is getting a show of his own — one that it appears will have more of a political flavor to it. According to the report, it will be called “In the Woods with Phil”.

With the show set to air on Conservative Review TV (CRTV) – a digital network that is less than two years old and features the likes of author and radio personality Mark Levin – what do viewers have to look forward to? Perhaps that is answered best by Phil Robertson himself:

“For far too long we have been told to shut up. No more. Here’s the deal, America. These are my woods. Out here, I call the shots. Out here, we reject political correctness, or as I like to say, ‘pontificated crap’.”

There is no question in my mind that Robertson’s new show is just one more indication of a major tactical shift in American politics. More and more people on the right are realizing that playing Mr. Nice Guy has done little more than to make them the progressive left’s punching bags. A fact that has resulted in the right losing ground, instead of gaining.

This paradigm shift is probably best illustrated by none other than the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. And further evidence can be seen in things like the idea of Kid Rock running for U.S. Senate . Of course, both things have the progressive left in a tizzy. For too long, they’ve been the bully on the block and it’s as if they’re not sure how to respond to getting punched in the nose.

This parallels an issue I wrote about in relation to North Dakota politics back in May. We call it “North Dakota Nice”. To that issue, I wrote:

“If limited government folks want true change in North Dakota. If we want to beat the establishment. Then we can’t worry about stepping on toes. Some folks don’t move until their toes are stepped on. And once in a while, we may have to bloody their nose– figuratively speaking of course. Why? Because North Dakota Nice does not equate to changing establishment politics.”

These ideas can be applied equally to the national political scene. The DC Political Establishment doesn’t budge easily. And whether or not a person believes Donald Trump is conservative enough is actually irrelevant to this issue. It’s more about what the election of Donald Trump represents than what he actually is or isn’t. His time in office will answer the question in regards to his conservative credentials.

Many Americans feel emboldened. They’ve had enough. They realize playing Mr. Nice Guy with the enemy only gets you beat. So, they’re swinging back. And now it appears that Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson is ready, willing, and able to throw a few haymakers of his own– figuratively speaking of course.

If you doubt what I’m saying, please consider this. Tomorrow Phil Robertson will preview his show at the Values Voters Summit in Washington. And in addition to his preview, guess who will be addressing attendees? None other than President Donald Trump and his former adviser, Steve Bannon. Need I say more?

Agree or disagree, love it or hate it, the fight is on. I suggest headgear for those that don’t want to get out of the way– figuratively speaking of course.
