URGENT ALERT: Abortion Bills Set for Monday Hearings

Monday is a big day for pro-life advocates. And Concerned Citizens of ND — a pro-life political action committee  — is gearing up for it. Two important bills regarding abortion are set to be heard in the House Human Services Committee— on the eve of the 46th anniversary of the awful Roe v. Wade decision. The first is HB 1336 and the other is HB 1546.

HB 1336 is Rep. Dan Johnston’s Abortion Reversal Bill. The bill is actually fairly simple. It adds two sections to North Dakota’s existing “informed consent” laws by mandating that women seeking termination of a pregnancy by an “abortion-inducing drug” be made aware that it’s possible to reverse its effects. Johnston has endured some criticism over the bill and we published an article recently expressing how illogical that criticism is. The bill will be heard at 9:45am.

HB 1546 is Rep. Luke Simons’ Dismemberment Abortion Ban. We wrote about this bill over a month ago. How anyone could support the practice of tearing an unborn child apart, as a means of terminating a pregnancy, is simply unthinkable. According to the Red River Women’s Clinic website, they perform abortions “to about 16 weeks”. Which means it’s unlikely that dismemberment is currently being used in North Dakota. Hopefully this results in them not opposing the bill’s efforts to ban the procedure. This bill is scheduled to be heard at 10:00am.

We cannot express how important that it is to contact your representatives and members of the Human Services Committee. Ask them to support these bills and encourage the committee to give them Do Pass recommendations. We must pass these bills in the House in order for the fight to continue on to the Senate.
